Set up your Etsy shop first

Etsy needs two things in place before it will accept a listing. Both are one-time and take about 5 minutes.

Create a shipping profile

In Etsy go to Settings, Shipping settings. In the Shipping profiles section click Create profile and fill it in:

  • Ship from country: United States, origin postal code 48216 (CustomCat ships from Detroit, so buyers see accurate US delivery).
  • Standard shipping: Etsy won't save "Other", so pick a USPS service such as USPS First-Class Mail (1-5 business days) or USPS Ground Advantage (for "Everywhere else" pick a USPS international option). This is just a buyer-facing estimate, the real carrier is attached automatically when the order ships. For What you'll charge, choose free shipping or a flat rate, whichever fits your pricing.
  • Add United States as a destination (and "Everywhere else" if you ship worldwide).
  • Shipping upgrades are optional, you can skip them.
  • Profile name: for example CustomCat shipping, then click Save profile.

Then in the Your processing profiles section click Create new:

  • Choose Made to order (print-on-demand items are made after the order).
  • Processing time: pick a range that covers CustomCat production, 3 to 5 business days is safe. Save it.

Add a production partner

Etsy requires this for print-on-demand because a third party makes the item. In Etsy: Shop Manager, Settings, Partners you work with, then add a new production partner and fill it in like this:

  • Production partner: CustomCat (stays private, leave "Show this to buyers" off).
  • Descriptive title: what buyers see instead, for example A US print shop.
  • Location: Detroit, Michigan, United States (CustomCat is at 1300 Rosa Parks Blvd, Detroit, MI 48216).
  • What they do for you: "Prints and ships my designs on apparel and accessories."
  • Why do you work with them: choose "I don't have the technical ability or equipment to make it entirely by myself".
  • Your role in the design: choose "I design everything myself".
  • Their role in production: choose "They do everything for me".
  • Click Save partner.

Done both? Pick them from the dropdowns on the left and Save. If a new one isn't listed yet, click Refresh.

Get your CustomCat API key

CustomCat fulfills your orders with your own account. Create an API connection in CustomCat and paste the key on the left. It takes about 5 minutes.

Start a new API connection

In CustomCat go to Store Dashboard, Connect a New Store, then choose Create API Order and start a new API connection.

Name the connection

Enter a Store name and Store URL (your Etsy shop URL, or anything, it is only a label for your own reference), then click Connect.

Finish the store setup

Fill in Store Information, Store Payment, and Shipping Label Information so CustomCat can bill and ship your orders.

Create the API key

Open the API section, click Create new API, and set the access level to Read/Write.

Paste it here

Copy the API Key, paste it into the API key field on the left, click Save, then Test connection.

You pay CustomCat directly for production and shipping. LzyPOD only sends the order details using this key.
